I Just returned from a few holidays in TIntagel, Corwnall and man, it was good.
Tintagel is know as the birtplace of the legendary King Arthur. Although no one really knows if the legendary king even existed (or according to Bernard Cornwell, if existed he might not even have been king, but a general instead) there are ruins of a Tintagel Castle. This one, though, erected in the 13th century, probably looking to take advantage of the existing legend for some extra fame. All this archeology and mythology surrounding the place is very exciting on its own, but there is more. This is my kind of holiday and is not because I've been a fan of Arthurian Lore since I was a child, but because it's so calm up there that it really is a place I'll return soon.
We stayed in the Camelot Castle Hotel which is a bit overpriced to my taste. Yes, it's a 4 star hotel, wonderful views from the window and being a castle plays its charm, but the en-suite bathroom is quite small (although functional), no two pieces of furniture go well together, the paitings in aboundance on the hotel are in excess and the TV and Kettle were bought in the eighties and never changed. Nothing of this is a deal breaker, but I confess I did found a bit cheap that breakfast was not included for the price it costs.
All in all, it was a very nice stay in the hotel with no incidents, but I'm inclined to think my next stay will be in a more modest place and I'll go to the hotel for the bar and the beautiful view outside of it. If you are a bit like me in what holidays are concerned, Tintagel is for you.
